Last June I joined the newly formed Decos - Do you miss them? group on IUOMA-ning. Bonniediva, a fellow Networker and talented mail artist, created the group. I had never heard of Decos, but the concept seemed interesting. I've since participated in a bunch of them. So what is a Deco? In snail mail circles, friendship books are a popular way to learn about people, and a terrific way to get new penpals. They are usually very basic, not-so-fancy books. Decos are theme-driven, and the emphasis is on decoration. They are generally six to ten pages, and each participant decorates one page (sticking with the theme) before passing it on. The end result is a beautiful booklet that is returned to the originator. Here are some pages from Decos I've worked on (click on each to see enlarged image): The following is a Deco I started. When it is returned I will post photos of the finished pages: Further reading: Decos 101 (from Go Make Something)
