Here are postcards I received from the FAB Richard C. in 2020: Richard C. Mail Art (April 17, 2020) Gotta say, I love this fun and witty postcard from Richard C. (and Baby Ruth)! At first glance one may get the idea that it's a photo from a grocery store ad, but I understood what was going on from the get-go. Look at the name of each of the products and you will understand.
The backside of the postcard reads, Family Portrait, 1976-79. Mixed Media, Life size. Left to right: Little Debbie; Grandma; Kitty; Dad & Mom; Uncle Ben; Aunt Jemima and Baby Ruth. I just noticed today, almost five months since receiving the card, that Richard C. is credited with creating the portrait. Neat!! See photo above.

In 2020 the Lyons' Den has received mail from a new correspondent - Olivia Arrow (Chicago, Il). . Mail art from Olivia arrived in late April and mid July. Olivia Arrow Mail Art (April 24, 2020) Olivia, a member of IUOMA-ning, found my name via the CIRCLES group. On April 24 a postcard arrived from Olivia. On the postcard she mentions that it was made for Earth Day / new moon. Olivia Arrow Mail Art (July 16, 2020)
One of my favorite mail pals, Bonniediva (Gurnee, IL) has sent a few mail art pieces between February and July. I decided to feature this mail here. Bonniediva Mail Art (February 8, 2020) Bonnie gave me a "Loved" collage she made with vintage images. Also received some add and pass materials. Bonniediva Mail Art (May 19, 2020) A couple of add and passes came my way via Gurnee, IL. Bonniediva also sent me another collage made with vintage scrapes. I am happy to report that two zines arrived - BON-ZINE No. 10 (the timely Quaren-zine issue) and a cute CATS ZINE.
Howdy! The latest mail art from the tremendously talented Bonniediva (Illinois) arrived earlier this month. The mail was sent in an envelope that was handmade by Bonnie. From what I can tell, a page from an art publication was used.
Here is a recent piece I mailed to Richard C. (Illinois). I couldn't resist making something from this recycled pop-tart box.
January 14 incoming mail included a postcard from Mr. Richard C. (Illinois). The postcard was made from a portion of a Lindt Chocolate packaging. Love the FLUXUS comic! Many thanks to Richard C!
Kristen Hermanny is another artist I enjoy. I may have mentioned this in an earlier post....Kristen and I were first acquainted on Instagram. I admired her envelope art / decorated covers on that platform, and I became curious about who she sent them too. Kristen is the person who introduced me to IUOMA, and I am so glad she did!
Another postcard from the fab Richard Canard - this one received April 17, 2019. Gotta love the smily face! Richard's wisdom on this face card reads, "The shortest distance between two points is a parallel line next to the outer edge." Loads of thanks to Richard!
Received this post card from Richard C. on February 11, 2019: Richard starts off by saying, "When one artist imitates another it only proves the world is in need of one less artist." I'm figuring this is in response to the post card I mailed him weeks before (see below).
From February 2019: Mail art from the legendary Richard C. I can't recall ever getting a serious piece of mail art from Mister Richard Canard, and that's fine with me! I enjoy his sense of humor.
For the "Dinah Shore / Dinosaur" poem, he cleverly situates a 2009 44 cent stamp (commemorating Ms. Shore's early television success) with a 2006 set of eight dinosaur stamps from the Republic of Kiribati (a sovereign state in Micronesia in the Pacific). From the looks of things, Dinah appears to be pleased -she's blowing a kiss in Richard's direction! |
