Mail from November 2018: Amy Candiotti is a fellow member of the Decos group at IUOMA-ning. I received mail from her in late 2018 which included the "What Makes You Happy Deco" (started by Bonniediva). Upon completing my page, the Deco was forwarded to another member of the group. The map envelope is handmade from an atlas page. I love the vintage image of the beret-wearing gal!
Many thanks to Amy! Read my post on Decos here.

Last June I joined the newly formed Decos - Do you miss them? group on IUOMA-ning. Bonniediva, a fellow Networker and talented mail artist, created the group. I had never heard of Decos, but the concept seemed interesting. I've since participated in a bunch of them. So what is a Deco? In snail mail circles, friendship books are a popular way to learn about people, and a terrific way to get new penpals. They are usually very basic, not-so-fancy books. Mail from November 2018: Hats off to Richard Baudet (Marseille, France) for this lovely piece.
Center stage is the envelope art, where Richard features the 26 letters of the English alphabet - both ascending and descending. Richard decided to do this theme because he noticed that I had joined the alphabet group on IUOMA-ning. Thank you from ETATS UNIS! Mail from November 2018: November came a knockin' and my mailbox was a rockin' with a rather hefty envelope from John M. Bennett. In his note to me John mentioned, "Some reading matter for you enclosed - for yr [sic] edification or puzzlement (which are perhaps the same thing)." When I reviewed the generous offerings I conceded that JMB hit the nail on the head! If you've been around the m-a block long enough, you know that John M. Bennett is an experimental text, sound and visual poet. He has published a great deal of his work (and the works of like-minded writers / artists) through his small press, LUNA BISONTE PRODS. I am pleased to have received a sampling of these publications. I haven't had a lot of exposure to experimental language, so I will make a point to delve into this packet of material. Another great resource I plan to make use of is John M. Bennett's website! Thanks so much for you generous mail, JMB!
Mail from December 2018: The Lyons’ Den received a very first piece of mail from Moscow, Russia via Ilya Semenenko-Basin. Ilya used postage stamps and glue to create an interesting collage. The collage I received was done on a post card, and features a number of circles and other shapes.
Mail from November 2018: How great to receive mail from C. Mehrl Bennett! I love the original artwork from Catherine - especially the mini book, "Ask a Cow." Weeks before I had given her a few brown kraft pages from a discarded braille book. I'm glad to see it put to use, and thrilled that I am the recipient! The braille paper was also used for a "Not Fluxus" flashcard post card.
Mail from August 2018: Judy S. and her lovely dog Joey sent me a post card featuring circles. Judy's note reveals that the card was made by Inge Hauser (Austria) for Judy to send to someone. As I am in the CIRCLES group (IOUMA-ning) with Judy, she decided to send it to me. Thank you, Judy & Joey!!
Mim Golub Scalin sent this slithery post card in October 2018. The card was made for Day 9 of "Creative Sprint, a project requiring Mim to combine two things that don't go together or are opposites." Her card features a snake and a white rodent. Many thanks to Mim!
Thanks so much, TIP! Love me some gnomes!!
(The following was originally posted on my blog at IUOMA, July 10, 2018) ALL THE WAY FROM FRANCE...
Richard Baudet's Mail Art arrived on May 1. Very nice envelope art, and a couple of small printed note cards. Looks like "Mail Art is good for our health!" Thanks, Richard! |
