March 2019 Mail Art from Jorge Martin... This is my first piece of m-a from Jorge Martin, a fellow IUOMA member. Jorge's "DADA" collage is composed of elements like: paint, red duct tape, doodling (or perhaps asemic writing), and various scraps of ephemera (postage stamps, book & magazine clippings). A view of the backside tells us that Jorge used recycled paper for the substrate - a utility 'safety notice.' If you're familiar with my art, you will know that I do a great deal of collage work. Jorge's DADA piece is quite similar to my style, imho. Very nice mail from Virginia. Looking forward to more in the future.
Thanks a bunch, Jorge!

From February 2019: Mail art from the legendary Richard C. I can't recall ever getting a serious piece of mail art from Mister Richard Canard, and that's fine with me! I enjoy his sense of humor.
For the "Dinah Shore / Dinosaur" poem, he cleverly situates a 2009 44 cent stamp (commemorating Ms. Shore's early television success) with a 2006 set of eight dinosaur stamps from the Republic of Kiribati (a sovereign state in Micronesia in the Pacific). From the looks of things, Dinah appears to be pleased -she's blowing a kiss in Richard's direction! February 2019: An envelope filled with add & pass stuff came from Toni Hanner. One add & pass came in the form of a large tag (8 1/2" x 4 1/8"). A Flux Bucks type currency, 'Funny Munny,' was also sent to me.
Mail from February 2019, from Y'r ol' Bud, Fike: So stoked to receive mail from Ficus Strangulensis! Fike, a longtime networker, is an engaging and rather interesting guy.
Ten is my favorite number! I was born on the 10th of June. The letter J (for Jayne, of course) is the 10th letter of the alphabet! I say all of this because this is the 10th piece of mail art I received for 2019. It is from the fabulous queen of trash, Diane Keys! I participated in the 2018 Barfa Spewart Tacky Gift Exchange. My “Rudolph the Redneck Reindeer” gift to John M. Bennett didn’t make the final three, but in this ‘everybody gets a trophy’ age, I still feel like a winner. Diane gave me my very own Barfa Spewart Christmas ornament! The envelope included a THANKS FOR BARFING 2018 card too!
Thanks, Diane! Amy Irwen, IUOMA (Rosemount MN) always sends awesome mail! As a mixed media artist, Amy is one to reuse / repurpose materials. Both the addressed envelope (inside not shown) and the rubber stamped decorative envelope were made from security envelopes. It looks like the ATC was made from part of a tissue box and bits of scrappy paper.
Thanks for the mail, Amy! Love it! Mail from January 2019 Mail from an IUOMA buddy, Linda Rogers (Toronto ON). Linda’s post card offers a great deal of texture.
Thanks, Linda! |
