Eléna Amette is an IUOMA-Ning friend. Got some mail from her this week. Eléna made a lovely tag card with the sentiment, "Petits Bonheurs Tout Simplement," which means 'little pleasures.' For the Lyons' Den she sent a couple of lion mandalas (shown twice in the pic above).
Many thanks to Eléna! The Lyons' Den received mail from Nancy Armstrong (Shreveport LA) on the 13th of January. I had friended Nancy on Facebook last Summer (at Picasso Gaglione's urging), and I've come to admire her artwork. In my opinion, Nancy's collage work is second to none. It is quite lovely the way she combines vintage portraits with things of nature. I received a copy of a collage featuring a young lady and a bird. It is entitled, "Connections." I think it's a playful piece - the young lady holds an egg in her arms, while wearing a birds nest atop her head. The bird appears to be dazed and confused. Nancy threw in some neat things for good measure - old children's playing cards, and a UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD COMPANY shipping tag. I especially like the railroad tag, and I've added it to the train pages of my art scrapbook (see below). Nancy sent mail art to me in 2018. I plan to share those pieces at a later date. Thanks for the great mail, Nancy.
In the last quarter of 2019 I submitted a postcard for another mail art call - 'Train No. 1.' The Museum of the Railroad History at Alexandrov, Russia (via Eduard Egorov) extended the invitation for participation in the project. This mail art project is "dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the first passenger-train arrival on the 1st of January 1870." Close to 100 participants responded to the call. Entries for this exhibition can be found on the project's blog. I enjoyed working on my postcard, which was mailed on October 15. My entry is exhibited on the project's blog HERE.
In October 2019 I submitted a postcard to Mick Boyle for his online mail art show, 'Ray Johnson Double Add and Return.' This is the original download for the 'Ray Johnson Double Add and Return.' I used the top portion of the download to make my postcard. My postcard is exhibited on Mick Boyle's website HERE.
Kristen Hermanny is another artist I enjoy. I may have mentioned this in an earlier post....Kristen and I were first acquainted on Instagram. I admired her envelope art / decorated covers on that platform, and I became curious about who she sent them too. Kristen is the person who introduced me to IUOMA, and I am so glad she did!
Mail came from a new correspondent today - Fonda Portales (Idaho). I glanced at Fonda’s (like Jane) profile page, and it appears that she is new to this IUOMA platform and to mail art. I discovered that she is a collector and curator, so I guess you can say we are kindred souls.
Today I received mail from Sabela Baña (Spain).
I always appreciate Sabela’s art. The envelope contained a whimsical postcard featuring a kitty cat playing with a Christmas ornament. A Christmas tree is in the background. (We no longer have cats in our home, but I certainly remember how they were drawn to the Christmas trees and ornaments. Houseplants were always a target, too! Haha!) On September 22, 2019, I wrote a BLOG POST about Cascadia Coffee Clutch...
Yesterday I received the newest issue (January 2020, Vol. 2, No. 1) from Jack at Cascadia Artpost. Katerina Nikoltsou sent me the second piece of m-a this year... It is a lovely Christmas postcard, complete with her Keith Bates reindeer!
Thanks so much, Katerina! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. |
